What is SEO
Like I said I’m starting from the basic before we go deep, let’s take a glancing look on the Keyword SEO for better understanding of what we’re treating.
According to https://www.lyfemarketing.com/blog/what-does-seo-mean/
The meaning of SEO (search engine optimization) is the process of making changes to your website design and content in order to help it appear in the search engines. By optimizing your website for the search engines, you can increase your visibility in the organic, or un-paid, search engine results.
If you’re wondering how this works, here’s a quick breakdown. Search engines like Google; scan your site, looking at design and content elements to help them determine what type of topics your website discusses and how user-friendly the site is. This process is called crawling. It helps the search engine deliver more relevant and useful search results to its users.
By improving SEO, your business is working to make it easier for search engines to understand and index your content. The better your website looks to the search engines, the more likely they will be to recommend your website or post to relevant search engine users when they look for keywords that are relevant to your product or service offering.
They are so many aspect of SEO like I said, SEO is a broad topic and I promise to treat them all in a simpler and understandable way. you can download it as PDF and read it later.
They are two Major Aspect of SEO
- On-Page SEO
- Off-page SEO
And I’ll be treating them, continue reading.
If you type “on-page SEO” into Google, You’ll get a featured snippet from Moz telling you it’s “the practice of optimizing individual web pages to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized, as opposed to off-page SEO which refers to links and other external signals.”
It takes into account all aspects of the webpage that, when added together, will improve your rankings in the search results. As Google becomes more sophisticated, one of the major factors influencing on-page optimization is relevance. How relevant is your page to the query? That’s how you have to think when you’re developing the page.
Think of these tasks as a benefit to your end user. You have about eight seconds to influence a visitor to interact with your website. The more interaction and engagement, plus the longer your users stay on the site, the better their experience.
If you put effort into these categories and strategies, you’ll see a boost in traffic and a rise in your search presence. Once you understand everything that goes into your on-page SEO efforts, conduct an analysis of your site to see how the anatomy of your page is performing.
These are all the component of On-page SEO, I’ll do well by explaining all this components and also give brief examples and reference.
Have you heard of the sentence “Content is king” well if you haven’t heard of it, I assure you it’s no crime, content is what you are given out the solution someone is looking for in the search engine, and in other to rank high you content must solve the problem of the reader this is one of the most if not the most important aspect of SEO, and as a new blogger in other to rank high in search engine for your preferred Keyword, you must write good content with the following in mind.
- Search engine friendly
- Reader friendly (Readability)
- Problem solving content
- And well detailed content (length)
With these few tips in mind, you’ll end up being a good content writer, not just good content writer, also a writer that solves problems, more on this as a single post, so I can thoroughly explain more. The simple logic is this, in other to rank or maintain a healthy search engine practice; your content must be search engine friendly, reader friendly, problem solving and lengthy.
What is internal linking?
This is a simple On-page SEO practice that have weight in your SEO aspect, it’s the linking of other related or relevant pages in your content, have you written a superb content and have a similar or relevant page on your website, you can link the post to your such post.
Benefit of internal linking
One of the major advantage or benefit of internal linking is that, it gives your audience further options to stay on your site. The more engagement to relevant pages, it also helps easy navigation of site, the more Google takes notice. Don’t put an internal link in every sentence, but include multiple links per page to bolster your SEO.
Meta tags are used to provide search engines with information about your page. To achieve high rankings, it has to do with relevance and user satisfaction, but including custom Meta tags will influence users and increase your click-through-rate. This is how a Meta tag looks like.
What is Title tag?
Title tags is the title of your content, it give out what the page/post is all about , it tells search engine what to rank our page/post for, Google uses the Title tags to compare the rest of the content.
However, the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast which is one of the best SEO plugin for WordPress users and I’m currently using, allows you to create a custom title tag within the platform. Always make sure to keep your title tags descriptive and short. Google recently increased the character limit for page titles to 70 characters before showing ellipses.
Best practice is to ensure you stay below the character limit so your titles display properly.
The meta description conveys what users will find on the page. While not a direct ranking factor, search engines read the meta descriptions to determine the page’s topic and the audience that will find value.
A well-written meta description can generate a competitive advantage in the search results, creating a higher click-through rate with a greater chance of conversions. While there is a possibility that Google will omit the custom description and pull an excerpt of the content on the page, it is recommended that you fill in the meta description for every page of your site.
The best way to check which pages are missing a meta description is to run your website through Screaming Frog’s SEO Spider. It shows you every URL under your domain, the meta description, and its length. To appeal to users on both devices, keep your description between 165 and 175 characters.
Creating a good meta description you should clearly outline what users will find on the page. Add your brand name and sprinkle in a keyword or two if they don’t sound forced.
What is heading tags?
Heading tags are tags that properly describes the category of a post; it helps in listing the heading of a page/post giving out useful information about what such headings are meant for.
Your landing page or blog should include multiple heading tags, from the h1 down to a potential h6. The most important is the h1. You should never have more than one h1 tag on any page. Include multiple h2’s or h3’s as users scroll down the page. These are used as subheadings.
Use the headings to represent the different sections of the page. You’ll notice the impact from both an SEO standpoint and a usability standpoint.
Image optimizing is the processs of adding image in yyour post that benefits the reader and search engine.
When you’re adding images to the page, it benefits the user experience. But, you can also help your SEO strategy by optimizing the image. Make your top targeted keyword the alt text and create a title that is unique, but stays applicable to the image. The featured image of this article has a unique title and the alt-text of what this post is about. Take a look on how to optimize image for SEO for wordpress user.

Of-page SEO is the opposite of On-page SEO which refers to techniques you can use to improve the position of a web site in the search engine results page (SERPs). Many people associate off-page SEO with link building but it is not only that.
In general, off Page SEO has to do with promotion methods – beyond website design –for the purpose of ranking a website higher in the search results.
Components Of Of-Page SEO
Social media is part of ‘off-site SEO’ and if you think about it, it’s also a form of link building. It should be noted that almost all of the links you get from social media sites are “nofollow” but this does not mean that they do not have any value.
Social Media mentions are gaining ground as ranking factors and proper configuration of social media profiles can also boost SEO.
Social bookmarking is not as popular as it used to be in the past but it is still a good way to get traffic to your website. Depending on your niche you can find web sites like reddit.com, stumbleupon.com, scoop.it and delicious.com (to name a few) to promote your content.
Of-page SEO is as important as On-page SEO, if you are serious in the business of ranking high on search engine, then you shouldn’t neglect the both On-page and Of-page SEO practice.
One of the component of Of-Page SEO Backlinking, happens to be the most toughest of them all, new blogger tent to always get it wrong, which most times results to penalty by almighty Google.
